Because IP telephony is implemented using
client-server architecture based on the wellknown,
well-publicized, and open Internet
Protocol, it is subject to the same security
vulnerabilities of any IP network-based
client server system. The problem with standards
is that they’re open: open to third
parties, open to university researchers, open
to systems manufacturers, and of course,
open to unintended consequences—like
hacker
attacks, viruses and toll fraud.
